Everyone in the Collective is collaborative and enthusiastic – we all look for new opportunities and we all roll our sleeves up and support each other to give clients the best possible experience.

Our consultants demonstrate the exceptional expertise our clients need – we ask for client references, peer recommendations and evidence of your ongoing commitment to your professional development.

And we keep a careful eye on the number of consultants working within each specialism – we encourage valuable collaborations and minimise unhelpful competition.

We all get a buzz from doing the work. And just as clients find it hard to connect with the right independent consultants, we understand how much time and energy it takes to initiate and build connections with clients.

The Consultants Collective gives you the professional support you need to do the work you love:

• A platform – space on our website to share your profile and showcase your expertise.
• Promotion – we introduce you to a wide range of clients through our Collective network and ask you to post articles, speak at events and share client testimonials.
• Collaboration – the Collective strengthens us as well as our clients, providing opportunities to grow your projects and deliver more by collaborating with other great consultants.
• Marketing – we are dedicated to boosting the Collective’s success and do marketing / business development so you don’t have to.
• Learning – we support your professional development by connecting with research bodies, academic institutions and industries to keep our thinking fresh.
• Peer support – we know that working independently can be a lonely endeavour. If you share our values, and you’re ready to collaborate, you’ll find your tribe in the Consultants Collective.

We’re here to connect you with clients, not to hire you out. You retain control of your fees and costs. And you negotiate and contract directly with the client we introduce you to or with the leading consultant, if your expertise is needed to support a wider project.

We don’t charge clients for connecting them with you. And we operate as a not for profit, all of our fees go towards covering costs.

What do the fees look like?

• A small annual membership fee to cover our standard operating costs.
• Commission on work sold that is facilitated by the Collective, this covers our Collective growth activity.
• Commission on work sold that is facilitated by a member, also covering our growth activity (this is split between the facilitating member and the Collective).

Our clients are often on the lookout for great people to work with in areas that the Collective doesn’t cover in its core membership base. And we love connecting useful people together. We are keen to support fellow independents and small organisations by making introductions. 

We don’t charge any fee to be part of our outer circle, operating on a basis of mutually beneficial introductions and sharing of networks.

Some examples of the types of skills in our outer network include: editors, website design, marketing, project managers, sustainability. But we’re also interested to get to know people with new and different areas of expertise.

We came from a world where Big Consultancy had all the tools and solutions. Leaving that world, we quickly discovered that wasn’t true! One of the founding principles of the Collective was to help our members keep at the forefront of their expertise areas. We love connecting with organisations who are pushing the boundaries of thinking in the people space, who are developing new technologies or tools and are conducting fresh research.
